Allison Harris is a senior broadcast journalism major set to graduate in May 2012. She is currently interning with NBC WRC-TV Channel 4 in Washington D.C.
She was awarded 1st place in the Student Anchor Competition for the national Broadcast Education Association in spring 2011. She was also awarded the Carl C. Smith scholarship from the Oklahoma Association of Broadcasters in spring 2011, and the Gaylord College Ralph Sewell scholarship in political reporting.
Allison is an anchor, reporter and producer for OU’s student newscast, OU Nightly, which is broadcast to more than 425,000 homes in Oklahoma.
Allison serves as president of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, Beta Theta chapter. She helped raise $73,000 for Children’s Miracle Network as the Business Director for Campus Activities Council Dance Marathon 2011. She was awarded the “OU Panhellenic Woman in the Spotlight” award in 2010.
At the end of her freshman year at OU, Allison co-founded a non-profit organization in her hometown called Past. Present. Action., which brings a distinguished lecture series to the three high schools in her hometown, McKinney, TX.
Last summer, Allison studied abroad in London, Paris and the U.K. with students of Gaylord College and Dean Joe Foote. During the trip, she studied at BBC, CNN International, Sky News, Wall Street Journal, The Guardian, Ogilvy, Frank PR and other organizations. When she returned, she completed an internship with the McKinney Chamber of Commerce.
Allison is an alumna of President’s Leadership Class 2008 and is currently an Advantage Scholar on the Dean’s Honor Roll List.
